Description: 

Enforcement Investigators and Analysis Officers (EIAO) with USDA/ Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS) are trained in surveillance and enforcement to conduct foodborne illness investigations, and other vital functions to protect public health. During the past 2 years, FSIS has removed thousands of pounds of products from commerce because they were adulterated, illegal, or otherwise posed a significant threat to consumers. In the case of a foodborne illness outbreak, FSIS investigators and officers work with epidemiologists from other health partners to trace the path of foodborne illness back through the supply chain and perform emergency preparedness and response activities. During the presentation, participants gained an understanding of the regulatory and enforcement methodologies that keep our food supply safe.
