nnovation and New Product Development (NPD) can no longuer be seen as incompatible with Traditional Food Products, but as providers of important tools to aknowledge the market and effectively respond to evolving needs. The motto for this webinar is: “It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change.” (by Charles Darwin). For such it is necessary a systematic approach using specific and structured methods and tools, that will be addressed on the webinar, and will enable to: • Identify different types of clients (direct customers /end users) and target segments • Identify needs and latent desires of clients and improve the offered products/services; • Acquire NPD practices and project management methodologies to create internal routines for continuously respond to market development. After successful completion of the activity, the participants are able to: - Be aware of the main determinants of success of products - Acknowledge of the main NPD methods to evaluate market needs - Use some tools /methodologies to collect and process consumers requirements In short, this webinar will address the following topics: - Determinants of success of a new product - Survey of market needs / requirements - Tools to process and use market needs to improve success of traditional food products - Some case studies in traditional food Presenters: Susana Seabra has been a consultant in SPI since January 2006. She has a degree in Chemical Engineering (five years diploma) from the Science and Technology Faculty of the University of Coimbra, Portugal. As an SPI consultant, Susana Seabra is responsible for coordinating activities in the SPI Coimbra office for the central region of Portugal. Susana Seabra has been working and coordinating projects for companies (such as Strategic Plans, Innovation Plans and New Product Development) and for local government entities (such as Strategic Plans for Innovation, Competitiveness and Entrepreneurship). Susana Seabra has eight years of previous experience as a project engineer, working in development of new products and processes in environmental and biotechnology fields. During the last two years, she was the director of the Innovation Department of an engineering company. She has experience in project management and coordinated several consortium projects involving partners from different European countries and North Africa. Miguel Carnide, as a consultant of SPI, has been developing his activity in various consulting projects, particularly in developing of strategic and innovative plans for companies. He also assists in the implementation of Local Agenda 21 projects and in the development of applications to programs for co-financing for public and private entities. Miguel Carnide has a degree in Environmental Science Engineering and Master in Environmental Engineering, in the specialization area of Technology and Environmental Management, from the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra (FCTUC).
